BRIDGE CRPD-SDG Training of Trainers Module A is happening in Geneva this week
The International Disability Alliance (IDA), in partnership with the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC), TCI Asia, DRAF and the Art 11 Project - Inclusive Humanitarian Action for Persons with Disabilities (IDA, CBM and HI), is conducting a Training of Trainers (ToT) Module A in the framework of the BRIDGE CRPD-SDG Training Initiative.
The training takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 11 to 16 February 2018. The training is supported by Ford Foundation and the catalyst program from the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Read more information on the BRIDGE SDGs CRPD training.
Overall, the training is a preparation of future trainers to upcoming BRIDGE CRPD-SDG modules, which are being organized to Uganda & Tanzania, in South Asia, Portuguese speaking countries, and as well as the one focused on Article 11 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies. It is also a privileged opportunity to ensure that in each region there are a critical number of disability activists in capacity to facilitate BRIDGE CRPD-SDG sessions.
This ToT is bringing 10 leaders with disabilities from Africa, Latin America and Asia, including persons with albinism, psychosocial disabilities, autism, deaf people, including indigenous and youth representatives with disabilities. Sessions will cover topics such as CRPD compliance, equality and non-discrimination, equal recognition before the law and inclusive facilitation, among others.
During the week, BRIDGE trainees will also meet DPOs from Haiti following the CRPD Committee's review.
In addition, the training will have a focus on the Article 11 of the CRPD on Situations of Risk and Humanitarian Emergencies. During the week, trainees will have the opportunity to meet representatives of Humanitarian and Human Rights organisations working on the CRPD Art 11, including Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA).
