Sense International is a leading global organisation that works through a rights-based approach to support people with deafblindness and complex sensory impairments to live, learn and thrive in often resource poor settings in; India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Peru, Romania, Tanzania and Uganda.

Although Sense International is a fairly small charity, we have a big impact. For over 20 years we have been working in partnership with local organisations to provide expert support and quality services to people with deafblindness, and advocate with governments to ensure that their human rights are recognised and realised. We also have a strong commitment to strengthening the voice of people with deafblindness and their families, and to building an evidence base to further inform our policy and innovative practice.


About the role

The Director of Sense International will have overall responsibility for the international work of Sense International, developing opportunities and engaging stakeholders to make positive changes for people with deafblindness and their families throughout the world.

The post is a key leadership position in the organisation and is also a member of the Sense Leadership Team with overall responsibility for Sense International’s strategic development and finances. The post manages a small UK based team and talented international Regional Directors. The post holder will also work with our partners to ensure co-ordinated programmes. The post is responsible for oversight of the global international strategy and implementation for Sense International.

You will be an inspiring and dedicated leader. You will be creative, finding solutions, open to informed risk and innovative. You can effect change where it is needed but you are equally happy working hands-on on day-to-day operations and activities.  You will be an excellent communicator, ‘able to listen’ and respond at all levels, treating people with respect and enabling a positive culture across a global team. You will have a sense of humour.

You will also have

-Extensive knowledge and experience of the International Development sector.
-High level knowledge and proven experience of international programme strategy and development.
-Exceptional people management and leadership skills particularly with geographically dispersed teams.
-Strong financial management and analysis skills with a focus on strategic growth.

The successful candidate will be able to travel overseas.
