IDDC General Assembly elects Mary Keogh as new Chair

Brighton (UK), 17 May 2024. We are pleased to announce Dr. Mary Keogh as the new Chair of the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC). Mary is replacing Dom Haslam, whose mandate came to an end after six years of service.

Mary is the Advocacy Director for CBM Global Disability Inclusion. She is not unknown to the IDDC network: she has been serving as IDDC Vice-Chair since 2021. She played a crucial role in the establishment of the IDDC Climate Action Task Group in 2022. In addition, she co-chairs the Disability-Inclusive Climate Action Working Group of the Global Action on Disability Network.

Mary’s academic journey is equally impressive, holding a PhD in Disability Law and Policy from the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at National University of Ireland, Galway, with a focus on mainstreaming disability in international aid. Additionally, her Master’s degree in International Development, with a specialisation in economic and political development, equips her with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the global landscape.

“I am a firm believer in the power of consortiums working together in solidarity to achieve systematic change,” Mary emphasized. She not only advocates for this belief but also exemplifies it through her actions. Her extensive professional experience reflects a consistent and impactful dedication to advancing disability rights on a global scale. Prior to assuming her current position, she actively contributed to the International Disability Rights Monitor. Her commitment is exemplified by her various roles within the organisation, including serving as a board member and coordinator of the European regional report.

Mary’s vision for her role as Chair of IDDC is deeply rooted in her belief in the power of collaboration and solidarity to drive systematic change.
